Abstract
Butadiene is purified to remove acetylenic compounds therefrom by treating it with mercuric oxide in presence of water, a mineral acid such as sulphuric acid, and a ferric salt such as ferric sulphate as oxidising agent. The purified product is polymerized either alone or with acrylonitrile to produce rubber-like masses.
