[Class 46] [Also in Groups VI and XXIX] A valve arrangement comprises two valves arranged in series in a conduit, the first valve being further opened by decrease in pressure in the intermediate space and the second valve by increase in that pressure. The first valve 3, Figs. 1 and 3, comprises a gate 4 connected by a link 21, arm 20 and lever 19 to a nut 18 on a threaded stem 14, the latter being mounted in a bearing block 16 on the short arm of a lever 10, so that the normal position of the -gate may be adjusted by turning the stem by a hand wheel 15. The lever 10 carries a weight 11 and is linked to a piston in a cylinder 9 connected by a pipe 8 to the outlet side of the valve so that the gate is moved in the opening direction when the outlet pressure falls. A valve 23 of similar construction is controlled by the pressure in the pipe 1a between the valves, its -weighted .lever 26 being reversed so that the weight tends to close the valve. Its weight 26 is adjustable by a lead screw 33 driven by an intermittently-operated electric motor 34 forming part of an electrical control system similar to that of Specification 552,771, [Group XXXV], and dependent on the relative times of filling and emptying two tanks which are being filled and emptied at the same time. Thesystem also comprises means for energizing a solenoid 52 entirely to close the valve 23 if a tank is emptied before the filling of another has been 'completed. A pipe 57 enables the whole of the automatic apparatus to be byepassed if desired, and the counterweights may be replaced by springs.
