Abstract
569,400. Optical inspection apparatus. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and MANDER, H. W. Nov. 15, 1943, No. 19036. [Class 97 (i)] An apparatus for inspecting internal, e.g. cylindrical, surfaces comprises a stem supporting a mirror, the surface of which is the whole or part of the external surface of a cone. As shown in Fig. 1, a conical mirror 31 having a vertex angle of about 90 degrees, is supported by a stem 10 and carries at its apex a lamp 15, the upper surface of which has an opaque cap 34. A cylinder 32 open at both ends is passed over the apparatus, which may be mounted on a stand 22 for angular adjustment, for inspection of the internal surface by the reflected rays 33. In a modification, Fig. 3, the conical mirror surface is releasably attached at its apex to a rod 47 fixed to a window 61 in a casing 46 carrying the lamp 15. The casing is inserted into a cylinder 32a having one open end and is attached to a handle 49 by a tube 45 bent at 48 so that the mirror surface may be viewed past the casing. A pointer may be fitted to the handle in such a manner that any feature or imperfection on the internal surface, brought into alignment with a mark on the mirror may be indicated on the outer surface of the cylinder.
