Abstract
568,910. Aircraft control surfaces. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT, Ltd., SIR W. G., and REYNOLDS, R. Nov. 6, 1943, No. 18462. [Class 4] An aircraft control surface 12 comprises a balancing vane 18 extending into an opening 14 at the rear edge of the main aerofoil, and subjected to the action of opposed bellows 19, 20 connected by passages 26 to selected points on the upper and lower surfaces of the aerofoil. The bellows comprise plates 21, 22 secured to the sides of the balancing vane 18 and opening 14, respectively, and folding end plates, 23, 24, the hinges 25 being of flexible material to provide air seals. Sealing strips 16 are provided between the surfaces of the control element 12 and the trailing edge of the main aerofoil..
