Abstract

568,860. Typewriters. BRUMHILL, C. W. Sept. 30, 1943, No. 16029. [Class 100 (iv)] [Also in Group VIII] A typewriter platen comprises a core 10 of wood or other solid material having grooves 11 on its periphery filled with lead 12, and a resilient outer sheath. The grooves may extend transversely or longitudinally of the core or may be in the form of a helix into which a strip of lead is wound. The lead strip may be waved along its length and its surface extend slightly above the surface of the core. As shown, a brass or other metal strip 14 wider than the lead strip is inset into the surface of the core to cover the lead. The core may be made of balsa, or a plastic or synthetic resin may be employed.
