Abstract

567,339. Abrasive materials. BALZ, W. G., and DAVIDSON, L. R. Feb. 23, 1943, No. 2969. [Class 91] An abrasive material for polishing metal articles by the tumbling barrel method comprises irregular fragments of crushed limestone and soap and water, the water and soap being of such proportion as to provide a substantial flooding volume of soapy water for the crushed stone and the articles being polished. The mixture may include metal polishing elements, such as steel balls. The soapy fluid may have a water softener dissolved therein ; abrasives such as pumice and oyster shell may additionally be added.
