Abstract
567,333. Collapsable tubes. SHIRLEY, E. J. Aug. 6, 1943, No. 12741. [Class 66] [Also in Group V] A collapsable tube is made by applying one or more layers of non-metallic plastic material in a fiuid state to a mandrel 5 to provide a coating 10 over the peripheral surfaces of the body, the shoulder 6 and at least a portion of the shank 7, fitting a rigid nozzle 8 on the neck and shoulder, and applying one or more further layers 12 of plastic material to cover the previous coating and the skirt 9 of the nozzle. The plastic material may be a cellulose derivative, a synthetic or natural gum or resin or a gelatinous compound and may be applied by dipping, spraying, brushing or the use of rollers. Any or all of the layers may contain a dye or pigment so that the whole, or part, of the tube is coloured. Printed matter may be impressed upon, or a label attached to, a layer prior to the application of a subsequent layer. The nozzle 8 may be held in place by a nut 11 screwed on the shank 7 and may be secured before the coating 10 has set. Alternatively, the skirt may be coated with a cement or a solvent for the plastic material or scored to form a key with the plastic material. Specifications 504,359 and 551,151 are referred to.
