Abstract

566,873. Refrigerating. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. May 21, 1943, No. 8084. Convention date, June 22, 1942. Addition to 526,616. [Class 29] Absorption systems.-In a continuous. cycle inert gas system having a sump 18 at the bottom of the evaporator 10 for collecting a pool of liquid which is adapted to seal and unseal a byepass conduit 20 for inert gas connected to the top of the evaporator, as set forth in the parent Specification, an overflow and drainage pipe 15 is connected with the bottom of the sump and with the lowest stretch 19 of the evaporator. Excess liquid flows into the stretch 19 and evaporates in counterflow to the inert gas. The pipe 19 may extend into the bend above the sump and be formed with a reduced end to provide a baffle to deflect into the sump liquid refrigerant flowing from the stretch 17 of the evaporator. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 3, a sump may be formed as a tube 31 fitted with an eccentric inner baffle 33 into which the byepass conduit 20 depends, the stretch 19 being connected to the sump just above the end of conduit 20. The stretch 17 may have a cut-away end projecting into the sump. By the above construction a uniform concentration of refrigerant content in the liquid of the seal is maintained automatically, and useful cold is produced by the evaporation of refrigerant overflowing from the sump.
