Abstract

566,518. Moulding artificial teeth. HALLIWELL, F. May 21, 1943, No. 8090. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] An artificial tooth which resembles a natural tooth is made by first moulding a portion D, Figs. 5 and 6, which has ridges and indentations on its surface, and then moulding on the portion D, in the same mould but using a different die, a second portion E, of translucent material of a lighter colour than the portion D, the darker under-layer D being visible in the finished tooth to a greater or less degree, depending upon the depth to which it is submerged in the lighter material. Faults or discolorations are thereby simulated. The incisal edge e may be made wholly of the translucent material. The teeth may be moulded twelve at a time by using three mould blocks A, B, C ; first the portions D are press-moulded between the blocks A and B, then the block B is removed, leaving the portions D in the block A, and finally the portions E are press-moulded between the blocks A and C (the mould recesses in the block C being larger than those in the block A). In a modified method, Figs. 7, 8, 9 (not shown), the teeth are injection-moulded in three blocks similar to those shown, the injection channel in the block C being of greater diameter than the injection channel in the block B.
