Abstract

565,162. Pneumatic tyres. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. June 9, 1943, No. 9258. Convention date, Sept. 10, 1942. [Class 144 (ii)] The carcase of a pneumatic tyre cover is formed of a number of plies of strain-resisting elements each enclosed in a layer of plastic composition, the composition enclosing some or all of the plies in the region of the crown having a greater resistance to fatigue than that used for the remainder of the carcase. The tyre shown comprises an outer breaker strip 12 coated with high - grade natural rubber composition, and cord fabric plies 19 of which only the central portion y underlying the tread is coated with this composition, the remaining parts 21 forming the sides of the carcase being coated with low-quality rubber or rubber-like compositions, rubber reclaim or synthetic rubber. The outer ply 12 may extend partly down the sides of the tyre. Some of the inner plies, which are not materially affected by the heat generated in the tyre, may be coated throughout with the low-quality rubber or like composition.
