Abstract

Copolymers of butadiene and styrene used as rubber substitutes are plasticized by milling with at least 1 per cent of an aliphatic carboxylic acid, or a monohydric aliphatic alcohol, containing not more than eight carbon atoms in the chain. Over 2 per cent of acetic acid or from 2 per cent to 8 per cent of methyl alcohol may be employed. Butyric and citric acid and ethyl, propyl and butyl alcohol are also referred to. Specification 558,334 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes also benzoic and lauric acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
