Abstract
563,108. Milling-cutters &c. FRANCIS, S. May 5, 1943, No. 7112. [Class 83 (iii)] In a milling-cutter or similar tool having a body portion comprising a number of laminµ 10f each provided with a seating to receive the cutting teeth 12e, a central lamina engages a groove 40 in each cutter and acts as a locking plate. All the laminµ have taper holes, those of the central lamina being slightly out of register when the tooth slots are all in alignment so that when the taper pins 43 are inserted the central lamina is rotated slightly to effect the locking. The teeth and the laminae may be additionally secured by brazing, soldering, welding or riveting. In a modification, two assemblies similar to that shown in Fig. 2 are mounted side by side with a spacing plate 10k, Fig. 5, between them which acts as a lateral support for both sets of teeth. The locking plate may have an enlarged key-way slot 16 to permit the rotational movement without obstructing the key-way. Hard metal may be applied to the teeth in any known manner to form cutting-edges.
