Abstract

562,544. Calcium carbonate. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., and SCHAUMANN, H. H. Aug. 5, 1942, No. 10895. [Class 1 (iii)] Calcium carbonate specially suitable for use in pigments is obtained by partially batchcarbonating an aqueous lime slurry and continuously feeding the partially carbonated slurry and carbonic acid into a reaction vessel at such rates that the pH of the reaction mixture remains below 11, e.g. at 8.4. According to examples, from 3.8 up to 52 per cent of the lime may be batch-carbonated, the remainder being carbonated by the continuous process.
