[Class 35] A permanent rectangular bar magnet 1 has two laminated polepieces 2, each of which is recessed at 4 to receive the end face of the magnet and a part at least of two opposite sides, the magnet and polepieces being secured by spot-welding 6. The top and bottom of each polepiece may be unrecessed so that the magnet ends are totally enclosed in a box-like recess ; these laminations are assembled after the spot-welding.
