Abstract

562,390. Oven doors. TURLEY & WILLIAMS, Ltd., SMITH, C. D., and OTTON, D. H. Dec. 22, 1942, No. 18181. [Class 126] [Also in Group XXVI] The door or closure of a gas, electric, or other cooker is sealed by the engagement of a rib with a gasket having a flexible metal facing. Fig. 1 shows a door frame 3 formed with a groove 5 to receive asbestos tape or band 6 which is covered by a thin aluminium plate 7 secured to the frame by screws 8. Heat insulating material is inserted between the plate 7 and an enamelled sheet metal panel 4 forming the outer surface of the door. The body of the cooker is formed with a ridge 2 against which the door abuts. In a modification shown in Fig. 2 the asbestos packing is enclosed in a copper or aluminium sheath 13 which directly engages the ridge 2. In a further modification the asbestos packing is replaced by springs pressing the plate 7 against the ridge 2.
