Abstract

Sulphanilamido acylamides of the general formula H2N.C6H4.SO2NH.X.CONH2 are prepared by the action of concentrated aqueous ammonia on compounds of the formula R1HN.C6H4.SO2.NR1.X.CO.OR, where X may be an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic residue, R1 may be hydrogen or acyl and R may be alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl. The reaction is preferably carried out by heating in an autoclave for about two hours at about 150 DEG C. Examples are given of the treatment with ammonia of (1) ethyl 4-sulphanilamidobenzoate; (2) ethyl N1N4-diacetyl-4-sulphanilamidobenzoate; (3) ethyl 3-sulphanilamidocinnamate; (4) ethyl sulphanilamidoacetate; (5) ethyl 5-sulphanilamidosalicylate; (6) ethyl 3-sulphanilamidosalicylate; (7) ethyl 3-aminopicolinate. In each case the corresponding amide is formed with simultaneous regeneration of the free amino groups. Specification 486,421 is referred to.
