Abstract
561,944. Two-stroke engines. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 8, 1942, No. 14114. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1941. [Class 7 (ii)] A multi-cylinder two-stroke internal-combustion engine has opposed pistons 1, 2 driving crank-shafts 5, 6 and each cylinder is supplied with air by one of a series of pump cylinders 17 which are arranged in staggered relation to reduce the length of the engine. From the pump cylinders air is delivered to a pipe 11 and thence through ports 13 into the working cylinders. Exhaust passes through ports 14 to a manifold 16. The connecting rods 18 of the pump pistons 19 are coupled to the connecting- rods of the pistons 2. In a modification, Fig. 3, the cylinders 17 are arranged in staggered V formation.
