Abstract

561,897. Turbines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 2, 1942, No. 4430. Convention date, March 8, 1941. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A vibration damper for a turbine blade comprises a heavy body 15 having a curved surface mating with a similarly curved bowl 14 forming the axis-facing end of a cavity 12 located at the outer end of the blade 10. The cavity is partly filled with a viscous medium which is squeezed between the body 15 and the slightly larger bowl 14 as the walls of the cavity 12 vibrate. The body 15 may consist of a ball or of a roller and two or more may be provided for each blade. When a plurality of rollers are fitted, they may be located at right angles to one another. The damper may form a unit 19 secured by screwing into the turbine wheel shroud 13. Specification 337,466, [Class 108 (iii)], is referred to.
