Abstract

561,788. Etching. MONOCHROME, Ltd., and WILSDON, S. C. Feb. 22, 1943, No. 2876. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Recesses or grooves to retain oil are etched electrolytically in layers of chromium electrolytically deposited to harden the surfaces of engine cylinders or liners, shafts, &c., by the aid of masks or resists comprising suitably perforated sleeves or casings of steel or of plastic material. The Figure shows a frame in. which a cylinder liner 3 and mash or resist 1 are clamped for suspension from the anode of the bath by a clip 15, the centrally disposed cathode consisting of a steel or other bar 12 insulated from the frame. Caustic soda, chlorides, chromic acid, or any suitable chromium plating solution may be employed as electrolyte.
