Abstract

561,474. Lawn mowers. BOOTON, C. F. Nov. 11, 1942, No. 15918. [Class 6 (ii)] The ledger blade 11 of a lawn mower is adjustable bodily towards and away from the rotary cutter 10 and also pivotally adjustable, to bring it parallel with the cutter; about,an axis which is intermediate its ends and which is normal to the axis of the cutter or tangential to a circle concentric therewith. The blade 11 shown is, connected to a member 112 which is pivoted by a pin 27 centrally of its length to a member 212. Clamping nuts 26, one on either side of the pin 27, hold the Made in the adjusted position, the nuts being screwed to studs projecting from member 112 through clearance holes in member 212. The latter has end lugs 13 each mounted on an eccentric 17 which is secured to a sleeve 18 surrounding a bar 19 of the frame. The lugs are each formed with a fork 14 engaging the flattened sides of a bush 1'5 rotatably mounted on a further frame bar 16. By adjusting, the eccentrics the entire blade assembly rocks about bar 16, and when the blade is correctly positioned locking is effected by clamping nuts 22 on studs 21 extending from the eccentrics through slots 23 in the lugs 13. The frame 20 has side wheels 29 having internal teeth geared to the rotary cutter, and is supported in front by a roller 31 carried by adjustable pivoted side plates 33. In a modification, the cam adjusting device is dispensed with and the lugs 13 are formed with arcuate slots through which extend studs projecting from the frame 20. Screw and nut adjusting mechanism is provided for rotating the blade assembly about the bar 16 and locking is effected by nuts mounted on the studs.
