Abstract
560,659. Fluid pressure servomotors. MACLAREN UNDERCARRIAGE CO., Ltd., and MACLAREN, O. F. Oct. 31, 1941, No. 14052. [Class 135]. An aircraft steerable landing element mounting operated by a fluid pressure servomotor, is provided with an irreversible gear coupling the relatively movable parts of theservomotor to lock mechanically the servomotor in its adjusted position. In the form shown in the Figures the power cylinder 19 is carried by brackets 20 carried by a non-rotatable leg part of the landing gear and houses a piston 16 with oppositely extending skirt portions 17, 18. A gudgeon pin 15 mounted in the piston passes through slots 22 in the piston and engages slots in arms in brackets formed on a member pivoted to the fixed leg and carrying a spindle on which the landing element is mounted. The skirt 17 carries a ported plug 24 threaded to engage a threaded spindle 25 having a collar 28 rotatably mounted with axial list motion in a recess 27. A worm wheel splined to the collar is adapted to be rotated by a worm 30 operable by a cable from a remote point. The servomotor control valve 33 has a piston valve with bands 34, 35 adapted to connect alternately the passages 36, 37 leading to the power cylinder with an exhaust passage 42 or with end chambers 40, 41 connected by a passage 39 to a motive fluid supply conduit 38. A clevis 43 on the valve spindle is connected by a lever with the end of the screwed spindle. Initial rotation of the screwed spindle, takes up the lost-motion in the recess and actuates the control valve to cause the piston to. move in the appropriate direction and; continues to, move until the control. valve is centralized. In the event of the pressure supply failing the screw may be rotated to move the piston through its full stroke. In a modification the piston is provided with a tubular piston rod passing through a stuffing box at one end of the cylinder. The power cylinders may be made single-acting. A single control valve may be arranged to control a series of power cylinders so that they operate synchronously or with a predetermined inequality of movement.
