Abstract

560,268. Turning. TURNER, E., and TURNER, F. A. Oct. 31, 1942, No. 15360. [Class 83 (iii)] An attachment for turning arcuate surfaces comprises a block 1 mountable on a lathe rest and having its upper face terminating in a flange 3 which forms a seating for an angularly-movable tool-post 4 carrying a tool 6. A plate 8 extending from the tool-post gives additional support by its engagement with the surface of the flange 3. The shank of the tool post carries a gear 10 connected through a gear 11, worm 16 and shaft 14 to an.operating handle 17 to move the tool over an arcuate path 23, Fig. 1: In order to set the tool to the desired radius a flange 19 on an adjustable gauge block 18 is set by means of slip gauges inserted between the flange 19 and the tool post which is of known radius. The tool post is then rotated to set the tool point into contact with the flange the tool being then locked by a screw 7. For cutting larger radii the support plate 8 may be arranged between the tool post and the work.
