Abstract
559,901. Cable-laying ploughs. FRASER & FRASER, Ltd., and ANGUS, A. R. Sept. 29, 1942, No. 13668. [Class 6 (i)] Ploughs for entrenching cables, placing concrete foundation layers, or cutting mole-drains comprise a frame consisting of horizontal runners 1 connected by vertical struts 3, 4 to inclined beams 2. Pivoted to an axle 7 extending through the uprights 4 is a lever or mast 8 and anglebrackets 9 carrying ground wheels 16. A cross-rod 17 fixes the brackets relatively to the frame members 1. A coulter 21 is guided between cheeks 20 secured to the frame and is fixable in different positions by cross-rods inserted in holes in the coulter and cheeks. The coulter is formed with a forwardly-extending horizontal root-cutting upper part and a renewable nose 23. A cable guide 25 is fitted to its rear edge. Slotted segments 10 are secured to the frame members 2 enabling the mast 8 to be retained in required adjusted position. Its upper end has mounted thereon a cable guide 12 and a pulley 13 over which runs a rope 14 from a hand-winch 15. From the road transport position with the wheels on the ground, the procedure consists in upwardly tilting the mast, securing one end of the rope 14 to the coulter, removing one of the rods 30, 31, and lowering the coulter into a prepared starting hole in the ground. The coulter having been secured by replacement of the rod, the mast is forwardly tilted, and the end of the rope connected to a point near the winch 15 which is then unwound after the pin 17 has been removed. The frame is thus lowered to ground level and the wheels relatively lifted. A stand 32 enables an operator to feed the cable over the guide 12 from a drum in advance of the apparatus. For laying moledrains or concrete foundations a coulter associated with a hopper or magazine may be substituted for that having a cable-guide.
