Abstract

559,481. Two-part couplings. MACHLETT LABORATORIES, Inc. April 3, 1942, No. 4487. Convention date, April 25, 1941. [Class 38 (i)] A coupling for high tension apparatus comprises a rigid socket 13 mounted in an extension 12 of the apparatus, such as an X-ray tube casing, terminals 17 secured in the base of the socket, and a plug member 23 of resilient material moulded on to the end of a cable 20 with co-operating terminals 30, clamping means such as a screw ring 33 being provided to press the plug member into the socket and expand it into close contact therewith. A flare 25 wired to the metallic sheathing of the cable is filled with the resilient material during moulding of the plug and forms a rim on which the ring 33 acts through a shell 32, the flange 24 closing the end of the extension 12. The socket 13 has a flange 14 held to a gasket 15 by a screw ring 16. The contacts 30 may be mounted in a rigid disc embedded in or attached to the end of the plug.
