Abstract
558,898. Automatic control systems. HUMBER, Ltd., and SAMPIETRO, A. C. July 22, 1942, No. 10250. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXVI] The relative rotation of the clutch members generates an electric current which actuates a throttle of the engine driving the clutch to synchronize the clutch members. Fig. 2 shows a friction clutch comprising driving members b, b<SP>1</SP> and a driven disc c mounted on the driven shaft m. This shaft carries magnets a, and other magnets a are carried by a rotatable thrust ring r driven from the clutch housing k. The currents generated in the windings d, e carried by non- rotatable flange u are fed to the field of an electric motor f, Fig. 3, to vary its speed in accordance with the relative speeds of the driving and driven shafts. The clutch can be opened by a fork acting in trunnions x on the slidable non- rotary flange n which imparts movement to the thrust ring r through a fixed thrust ring q and so to levers p which release the frictional driving connection. In a modification, one clutch element may carry magnets and the other element carry a winding. The motor f acts through a worm and sector 12, 11, Fig. 3, on a throttle valve 9 having a lost motion connection with a second throttle valve 2 operable by a pull rod 7.
