[Class 140] [Also in Groups XVIII and XX] A reflex light reflector adapted e.g. for making signs for outdoor highway use comprises a light-returning layer of small transparent glass &c. spheres 15 providing a multiplicity of contiguous convex lens elements, an underlying reflector 11 spaced from said spheres, an interposed layer of transparent spacing elements 13 (e.g. glass cullet of substantially the same refractive index as the medium) of smaller dimensions than the spheres and a transparent matrix 12 (e.g. resin base) in which the spacing elements are embedded and in which the spheres 15 are partially embedded, the matrix and spacing elements constituting a solid transparent medium between the spheres and the reflector. The spheres may be of varying size and selectively spaced from the reflector to ensure optimum brilliancy. The reflector may be non-specular and the reflex light reflector may be in the form of sheet material capable of being wound into roll form. The light reflector may have a waterproof sheet backing and may be weatherproof. The material may be made of applying liquid binder to a backing, positioning a layer of spacing elements thereon, applying a second layer of binder, then applying the spheres and drying.
