Abstract
557,677. Alloys; granulating. CHROMIUM MINING & SMELTING CORPORATION, Ltd., Nov. 28, 1942, No. 16938. Convention date, Jan. 9. [Classes 82 (i) and 82 (ii)] In the production of iron alloys, e.g. highcarbon ferro-chrome, the mixture of metal and slag leaving the furnace is finely divided or granulated, thereby forming a mixture of particles of metal and slag which is afterwards treated for the separation of metal and slag. Granulation may be effected by a liquid or gas, e.g. water, air, or steam, particularly by causing the molten stream to pass downwards through two wide vertically-spaced transverse streams of water. The mixed particles may be separated by gravity concentration and may be ground before or after concentration. The slag product may be further treated by gravity concentration to recover particles of unreduced ore which may be returned to the furnace.
