Abstract

557,298. Goggles. SMITH, H. J. May 18, 1942, No. 6746. [Class 97 (i)] An eye shield comprises a flat transparent plate 1 recessed to fit on the wearer's nose and provided with part-cylindrical wings 6 having outer edges 7 shaped to fit the adjacent portions of the wearer's face ; sight correcting lenses may be attached to the plate 1. Nose pads 4 may be provided on the edges of the recess 2 and the wings 6 may be extended at their lower edges to join the pads 4. Slots 9 may be provided to receive a head band slots near the upper edge may receive a cap attachment, or spectacle sides may be fitted. Sight-correction lenses 11 may be mounted in a transparent flat plate 12, the plate 12 being detachably held by lugs 16 on the wings 6 and by holes engaging over pegs 15 on the plate 1 ; the plate 12 may carry the nose pads 4a and may have a bevelled surface 3a forming a surface continuous with a bevelled surface 3 of the nose recess. Studs 10 may be provided on the front of the plate 1 to hold the plate from a surface supporting the shield when out of use. The plate 1 may be made of a plastic material, and the plate 12 and lenses 11 may be moulded integrally from plastic material.
