Abstract
554,814. Concentrating ores. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. Aug. 31, 1942, No. 12258. Convention date, Sept. 6, 1941. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group IV] Acid constituents such as silica are separated from other constituents of phosphate, calcite, fluorspar, and like ores by flotation or other concentration in presence of a collector or promoter consisting of a compound of the general formula in which R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloaliphatic, -C:NH.NH 2 , -C:O.NH 2 , or -C:S.NH 2 radical, and R is alkyl or an alkyl group containing oxygen, sulphur, or nitrogen, or salts of such compounds. The following are representative compounds: S-octyl pseudo thiomrea hydroiodide; S-lauryl pseudo thiourea hydrobromide; S-myristyl pseudo thiourea hydrochloride; S-cetyl pseudo thiourea hydrobromide; S-lauryl pseudo guanyl thiourea hydrobromide; S-lauryl mono-pseudo dithiobiuret; S-lauroyl aceto pseudo thiourea hydrochloride; S-(N- lauroyl-amino ethyl aceto)-pseudo thiourea hydrochloride; S-lauroyl pseudo N-phenyl thiourea hydrobromide; S-lauryl methoxy pseudo thiourea hydrochloride. The compounds may be made by reacting thiourea or a N-substituted thiourea with an alkyl halide or other alkylating agent, or by reacting thiourea hydrochloride or a N-substituted thiourea hydrochloride with an alcohol containing 8-32 carbon atoms, preferably using crude mixtures of such alcohols obtained by catalytic methods from hydrocarbons, or by reacting cyanamide with a mercaptan containing 8 or more carbon atoms.
