553,990. Machine-gun cartridge-belts. JACKSON, E. A. Nov. 14, 1941, No. 14668. [Class 92 (ii)] In cartridge belt filling machines of the kind in which a revolving tappet carrier 16 contains peripherally arranged parallel tappets 17 which are axially movable by a fixed cam 18 into engagement with cartridges traversed through the machine by a belt feeding and locating device 32, 42, 31, each tappet encloses a spring 33 for maintaining it in contact with the cam. The spring is lodged in an axial cavity in the tappet and abuts against a transverse pin 34 in the block 16. The front end of the tappet engaging the cartridge may be axially in alignment with the tappet, but is preferably inwardly offset in radial direction. The position of the cam 18 may be adjusted on the shaft 13 by means of the threaded sleeve 19, but when reduction gearing is provided between the crank 29 and shaft 13, a similar adjustment is provided at the other end of the machine for the shaft 14 and associated belt-traversing gear mounted thereon. Pivoted belt guides are provided on each side of the machine, and a pivoted central cover 46 for the gearing 31, 32, 42. Specification 533,424 is referred to.
