[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] A mechanical press in which the length of the stroke can be varied whilst maintaining a constant bottom-of-the stroke position of the tool-carrying slide 12 comprises a toggle-lever 14 actuated by a link 35 one end 42 of which is adjustable along the length of an arcuate guide 45 formed in a lever 32 pivoted at 33 on the press frame, the lever 32 being pivotally connected at 39 to a driving link 30 actuated by a crank 37. The links 30 and 35 are in tension on the pressure-applying stroke.
