553,917. Snap action switches. TURNER L. V. (Talbot, F. A.). Dec. 12, 1941, No. 16095. [Class 38 (v)] In a limit switch, a lever 7 has an extension 12 which first strains one of the two set-up ends 13, 14 of a coiled torsion spring, and, after sufficient stressing, moves the upper part 26 of a pair of toggle levers to break the toggle and allow a pivoted insulating arm 17 to snap over, the end 47 of which moves a rod 43 bearing bridging contacts, two, 41, 42 being shown, away from pairs of fixed contacts 32, 33. A torsion spring 30 may return the lever. Toggles may be provided for holding the contacts at each limit. The arm 17 may bear a shield 18 to isolate the live parts of the switch from the actuating mechanism. The upper part 26 of the toggle may be shaped so that the extension 12 may actuate the contacts positively if the spring breaks. Specification 536,636 is referred to.
