Abstract

551,842. Continuous casting. ALUMINIUM LABORATORIES, Ltd. April 27, 1942, No. 5640. Convention date, Aug. 21, 1941. [Class 83 (i)] In continuous vertical casting a solid member C is introduced into the mould A periodically to separate the casting into ingots B. The separating members may be made of aluminium, copper, steel, asbestos, or graphite, be shaped to give the desired end shape to the ingots, and be perforated at 10 to form a cast link between successive ingots which may be broken by the end of the casting being deflected by a guide D. The ingots may be carried away by a conveyer E and the separators C removed for reuse. Steel or copper separators may be coated with whitewash or graphite.
