551,471. Manganese dioxide. SMITH, J. W. Aug. 20, 1941, No. 10593. [Class 1 (iii)] Manganese muds containing alkali metal compounds are made suitable for use as depolarizers in electric cells by treating them with a solution of a compound of zinc, calcium, magnesium, manganese, or other metal which has no deleterious effects in the cell, or of ammonium under such conditions that the metal or ammonium replaces the alkali metal, which is removed by washing.
