Abstract

551,217. Kinematograph and like picture strips. CINEMA-TELEVISION, Ltd., and TURNER, H. B. Aug. 27, 1941, No. 10952. [Class 98 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] Photographic film or like flexible strips, e.g. of paper or steel, are joined by forming near the end a series of lips as by punching, and interlacing the lips on one strip with those on the other. As shown.in Fig. 2, series of lips 1, 2 are struck up across the width of the film ends A, B, respectively, the ends are placed together with lips facing opposite ways, and the series oflips on one end are engaged with the series of holes in the other. The two ends may be superimposed to strike up the lips before the ends are joined. The lips may be of any shape, e.g. tapered and blunt-ended, semi-circular, or larger than semicircular so that an interlocking action is obtained; and they may be arranged in line or lines transversely to the length of the strip or staggered. Fig. 5 shows a punch for forming the lips, comprising an apertured plate 6 against which a series of spring-retracted bevelled pins 8 may be depressed to an extent limited by stops 9, and which has an abutment stop 10 for the end of the film. In the case of kinematograph films, register pins may be provided to engage the feed perforations. The stop 10 is omitted from similar apparatus for punching both series of lips simultaneously. Reference is made to joining films for continuous printing and processing.
