Abstract

550,859. Grinding and polishing surgical catgut. JOHNSON & JOHNSON (GT. BRITAIN), Ltd. July 24, 1941, No. 18541/42. Convention date, July 24, 1940. Divided out of 550,850. [Class 60] In apparatus for grinding and polishing strings of catgut a variable throat 11, Fig. 7, is provided between a grinding wheel 9 and a regulating wheel 10, means, e.g. fluid pressure devices, such as an injector 15 and an ejector 20, being provided for feeding the strings into the throat and pulling them away therefrom. Work supports 12, Fig. 7A, at the throat are disposed so that they are not disturbed when the grinding throat is adjusted. The injector 15 may be operated by air, water, lard oil or preferably by a hydrocarbon liquid or gas having a cooling action. The ejector 20 is preferably pneumatic and serves to dry the string after grinding. Specification 550,850 is referred to.
