550,755. Pleating paper. AMERICAN REINFORCED PAPER CO. July 17, 1941, No. 9058/41. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1940. [Class 141 [Also in Group VIII] Paper e.g. comprising kraft plies united by asphalt and reinforced with fibrous strands, is irregularly pleated, so that it may be stretched in various directions, by passing it between two pairs of rollers 18, 22, Fig. 2, relatively reciprocated axially as by a link 44 and gear 48, a grooved guideway 40 receiving a base-plate of the roller framework. At each extremity of reciprocation, the web 2 tightens to form undulations 2b, 2c as illustrated which are pressed into pleats 61, Figs. 2 and 4, as the web passes between the rollers 22. The web may be submerged in water 10 before treatment.
