550,191. Cores for dynamo-electric machines ; transformers and inductors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 27, 1942, No. 1116. Convention date, Jan. 28, 1941. [Classes 35 and 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Magnetic cores in general, including those for transformers and reactors ; motors, generators, and other rotating apparatus ; and other stationary forms of induction apparatus ; are built up from strip having its most favourable magnetic direction lengthways. The core, Fig. 1, is built up from strip sections with milled joints with interlocking projections 13 across the joints. In building up the core alternate laminations have the projections extending in opposite directions so that lateral displacement of end sections 12 and side sections 11 in the finished cores is prevented. The sections are punched from the strip without waste as indicated in Fig. 2, or if desired the sections 11 may be punched from one strip and those 12 from another. The projections need not interlock but may be semicircular, triangular, &c. The core is preferably annealed after assembly as this tends to increase the closeness of fit at the joints.
