549,931. Vitamins. OGILVIE FLOUR MILLS CO., Ltd. June 10, 1941, No. 7333. Convention date, Jan. 7. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group V] Saponifiable oils such as wheat germ oil are treated in solution in an organic solvent such as petroleum ether or acetone with cold concentrated (85 per cent.) sulphuric acid, the solvent phase is separated and the solvent removed to recover tocopherol (vitamin E) in relatively concentrated form. The acid phase is diluted with water, the precipitate filtered off and extracted with ethyl ether to yield an oil having anti-oxidant properties and a residue having detergent properties.
