[Class 38 (iv)] Transformer arrangements.-To compensate the leakage reactance of a supply transformer and improve the regulation on lagging load of given power factor, a condenser is connected in series with the secondary winding by means of a step up series transformer. An arc gap, or voltage responsive resistance material such as described in Specification 292,110, [Class 38 (iv)], is connected across the condenser to short circuit it at a given overload and allow the transformer leakage reactance to limit the current. The supply transformer casing may accommodate the auxiliary apparatus. On a three wire supply, series transformers may be inserted in each outer wire or one only in the neutral wire according to the voltage of the inductive apparatus giving the low power factor.
