Abstract
549,434. Self-locking nuts. WESTLEY, C. (Boots Aircraft Nut Corporation). Dec. 6, 1941, No. 15768. [Class 89 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Self-locking nuts of the type in which an auxiliary threaded part normally out of plan relation with the main nut is connected thereto by a resilient connection have the auxiliary threaded part 6 within but opened apart from a wall 2 extending from the end face of the nut. In manufacture nut blanks are produced with an extension 2, Fig. 2, which is formed into separate tongues by a castellating operation. The tongues 7 are curled inwards so that their inner edges touch; the nut body 1 and the part 6 are tapped and the part 6 is displaced axially towards the body. In a modification the extension 2 is curled inwards in integral form and is then reduced by a form cutter from the shape shown by the dotted line 11 to the full line 10. In a further modification an integral extension is reduced in thickness by grinding, on the top face.
