Abstract

548,938. Resilient shackles. METALASTIK, Ltd., and GOLDSCHMIDT, M. Oct. 23, 1940, No. 15572. [Class 108 (iii)] Two members having means for preventing their complete separation under excessive load are resiliently connected by tension elements consisting of a number of superposed rubber loops of graduated thickness and strength. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, each of the members consists of a pair of links 18, 19 with outer connecting bolts 20, 21 and inner cross pins 16,17. A slotted link 22 prevents complete separation of the elements. The rubber loops 12 are arranged around sleeves 14, 15 and are enclosed in overlapping slotted casings 25, 26 clamped to the bolts 16, 17. In a modification the casings do not overlap. The gap between them when extended discloses a coloured band indicating the amount of the load. In a further modification, the casings and links'are combined and enclose only one compound loop spring. Slotted links for limiting extensions may be arranged outside the casing. Rubber springs bent round at one end only may be used, the free ends being bonded to eyelet plates 61, 66, Fig. 11, secured to a pin through which tension is applied.
