Abstract

547,536. Perfumery. STAFFORD ALLEN & SONS, Ltd., and WEST, T. F. April 25, 1941, No. 5374. [Class 81 (i)] Fixatives for perfumery are prepared by dissolving an oleo-resin or gum resin of the class suitable for that use and including gums benzoin olibanum, myrrh, opoponax, and labdanum, balsam of Peru, styrax, orris root, in a substantially odourless glycol or glycol ether. The natural material is treated with a volatile organic solvent, the solvent removed from the solution and the remaining gum dissolved in the glycol or glycolether. Small quantities of synthetic compounds, e.g. vanillin or a ionone or extracts from natural substances such as oil of carrot may be added.
