Abstract

547,070. Open fireplaces. BIRD, K. H. March 3, 1941, No. 2833. [Class 126] A collapsable tapering duct consisting of a front 2 and sides 4 is arranged between the fireback and the flue of a fireplace to prevent smoke due to cavities or cold pockets below the chimney breast. The duct may be made from refractory material but preferably consists of three trapezium shaped metal plates hinged together. The rear corners of the side plates may be rounded or cut off. The Provisional Specification states that when fitted to a fireplace during erection the side plates may be fixed to the front plate.
