Abstract

546,083. Dynamos. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., and BAYLES, J. W. Dec. 18, 1940, No. 17821. [Class 35] An electric generator has shunt and series currents reinforce one windings which at low another in a common magnetic circuit through the armature, and means for increasing the leakage flux which links the windings but does not pass through the armature, the generator having a falling characteristic, as for welding, independently of the means for increasing leakage flux. In the form shown the pole D carries a shunt winding F and an assisting series winding E and a laminated bar G of magnetic material extending outside the windings increases the leakage flux linking them. The bar G may carry an additional series coil J connected to winding E so as to reinforce the leakage flux. Alternatively, an independent closed or partly closed core may link the windings E, F, or adjacent poles or interpoles may be linked by magnetic material or shaped to increase the leakage flux between them.
