Abstract

545,991. Screw conveyers. CLARK, G. M. (Jones, S. G.). Dec. 17, 1940, No. 17783. [Class 78 (i)] A coal crusher associated with a screw conveyer for a boiler stoker, partly encircles the screw and is arranged at the forward end of the screw trough to which coal is fed, the screw feeding the crusher coal into a delivery tube. The'screw 11 working in the trough is enlarged in diameter when it enters the flared cluster 16 which consists of a series of arcuate ridges 17. The delivery tube 7 has a rearward extension on which the crusher is mounted. Lugs on the crusher engage under shoulders formed by cutting away the underside of the tube thus holding the crusher against all except endwise movement which is prevented by bolts 24. The ridges 17 are inclined slightly to the thread of the screw.
