545,815. Ignition systems. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and WATSON, E. A. Dec. 12, 1940, No. 17603. [Class 7 (iv)] In a system in which the primary winding e of a transformer is energized by discharge from a condenser d through a discharge switch g, the condenser is charged from an A.C. generator a having a number of generator windings, one or more control switches h being actuated by means responsive to engine speed so that the number of winding turns in operation at low engine speed is greater than at high speed. In one form, Fig. 1, a tapping c in the generator winding is connected to one of the terminals of the switch h so that the whcle generator winding is in circuit at low speeds and only a part at high speeds. In modifications, the generator has two or more windings with different numbers of turns, which are alternatively connected in circuit by the switch h. The latter is actuated by centrifugal or other means.
