Abstract

545,718. Mining machines. LOGAN, W. A. March 25, 1941, No. 4000. [Class 68 (i)] Relates to cutter-chain mining machines of the type in which the chain-jib is swingable about the axis of the chain-driving sprocket on a head which is angularly adjustable about a parallel axis on the body of the machine. The head B is adjustable about the axis E and is held in adjusted position by bolts H, the chain jib C, after adjustment about the axis of its driving socket G, being held by a pin M; in the space left by the displacement of the sprocket wheel is mounted a cuttings conveyer comprising a casing 1 held by a bracket K attached to the head B and by a forward attachment not shown, and carrying a scraper chain 4 driven from the machine motor, preferably 'through a clutch which slips under overload. The rear of the floor of the casing 1 may be inclined upwards so that the cuttings are raised before being deposited on the floor or on to an auxiliary conveyer. The conveyer may be removed as a whole and attached to the other side of the machine after the chain jib and the head B have been swung over, the head then being held by bolts inserted in holes H'.
