Abstract
545,501. Aerials; wireless signalling. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Nov. 20, 1940, No. 16709. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] The demountable quarter wave aerial arrangement described in Specification 539,858 is modified by omitting the quarter-wave " coupling transformer," the necessary impedance-matching between the low-impedance aerial and a standard 70-ohm feed-line being secured by adjusting about a quarter wave length the effective lengths of the radiator and a supporting concentric line. As shown in Fig. 2, the antenna conductor 9 is adjustably connected at 25 to a supporting concentric line comprising inner and outer tubular conductors 11, 23 with an adjustable " shorting " block 13. The unit is supported by brackets 21 from a mast 7 which also carries the feed-line 15. In a typical instance, the radiator 9 is adjusted to a length of 0.243 and the resonator 11, 23 to 0.119 Four horizontal conductors 17 are arranged, as shown in Fig. 1, to form an effective " earth for the antenna, which may also be provided with a reflector at one side and a " director at the other side (Fig. 6, not shown) for directive working. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 541,870.
