Abstract

544,491. Band clips; bolts &c. HUTCHINGS, R. G., and AMAL, Ltd. Oct. 14, 1940, No. 15219. [Classes 44 and 89 (i)] A screw tensioning device applicable generally but described as applied to a band clip for hosepipes &c., comprises a flat flexible metal strip guided in a slotted support on which a nut is rotatably mounted, the nut engaging serrations formed on one or both edges of the strip. As shown, the support 4 has a body portion shaped to conform to the pipe, not shown, and having a reduced portion 9 on which a nut 10 is rotatably anchored by a plate 12 held by riveted projections 13, or by other means. The flexible strip 2 is permanently secured to the support by suitable means, such as rivets 5 shown as securing the end of the strip in a slot. The other end, having serrations 7 along'both edges, is threaded through a slot 8 in the support, the nut engaging the serrations. As shown, the reduced portion 9 is displaced laterally to the left, Fig. 3, whilst slot 8 extends out of one side of body 4 and completely through the part 9. If desired, the strip may be of softer material than the nut, so that the nut may cut the requisite serrations.
